 The Biden administration has adopted a different approach to Venezuela than the previous administration, which relied heavily on sanctions and isolation to pressure Maduro to step down.  The current administration has expressed its support for a negotiated solution to the political crisis, and has engaged in dialogue with the Maduro government and the opposition. It has also eased some of the oil sanctions on Venezuela, and announced new measures to manage the influx of Venezuelan migrants at the border¹²³ . However, the Biden administration has not recognized Maduro as the legitimate president of Venezuela, and has maintained its recognition of Juan Guaidó as the interim leader. It has also stated that any significant relief of sanctions would depend on the outcome of the negotiations, and that it would continue to support human rights and democracy in Venezuela

  Cori Bush is a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Missouri since 2021. She is part of the "Squad", a group of progressive women in Congress. She is the first Black woman to represent Missouri in Congress, after defeating incumbent Lacy Clay who held the seat for ten terms in 2020. According to media reports, Cori Bush is under investigation by the Justice Department for allegedly misusing federal funds for personal security. The Justice Department has subpoenaed the House Sergeant at Arms, the top law enforcement official in the House, to obtain records related to the alleged spending¹²³. Cori Bush has not publicly commented on the investigation yet. She said in a statement that she is fully cooperating with the probe.
