Oscar Piastri Dominates Miami GP as McLaren Secures Historic One-Two Finish
Miami, FL – May 4, 2025
Australian driver Oscar Piastri delivered a commanding performance at the Miami Grand Prix, leading McLaren to a sensational one-two finish and extending his lead in the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship standings.
Starting from pole, Piastri controlled the race from start to finish, never losing the lead and fending off pressure from his closest rivals. His teammate, Lando Norris, completed the day on a high for the Woking-based team by finishing second, solidifying McLaren's dominant return to the front of the grid.
✦ A Milestone Victory
Piastri’s win marks his third victory of the season and perhaps his most convincing. Despite early challenges from Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, the McLaren driver remained cool under pressure, managing his tires expertly and maintaining consistent pace throughout the 57 laps.
“The car felt amazing today,” Piastri said. “We knew we had the pace, but executing a perfect race in these conditions was crucial. It’s a fantastic result for the whole team.”
✦ McLaren’s Best Performance in Over a Decade
The one-two finish is McLaren's first since the 2010 Canadian Grand Prix. It reflects the team’s resurgence as a serious championship contender, with both drivers consistently performing at the top level in recent races.
Team Principal Andrea Stella praised the effort:
“This result is the culmination of hard work across the board — from engineering to pit strategy. It’s a special day for McLaren.”
✦ Championship Shake-Up
With Verstappen finishing third after struggling with tire wear and setup issues, the championship battle tightens significantly. Piastri now leads the standings by a narrow margin.
