Biden is knocking on the doors of Congress again in order to provide new weapons to Israel worth a billion dollars
President Joe Biden's administration notified Congress on Tuesday that it was moving forward with new arms sales to Israel worth more than $1 billion, US officials said, a massive weapons package less than a week after the White House temporarily halted a bomb shipment over an Israeli plan to attack Rafah.
According to the Wall Street Journal, citing officials, the latest arms package includes tank ammunition worth $700 million, tactical vehicles worth $500 million, and mortar shells worth $60 million.
The tank shells, vehicles and mortar shells in the package sent to Congress constitute a “rare case” of new arms deals with Israel since last October, as the new weapons could replenish Israel’s stockpiles that were exhausted during more than half a year of war on Gaza.
The deals have been under consideration since earlier this spring, as the decision to notify the new Congress began during a review period during which lawmakers have the option of seeking to block the deliveries.
