Tragedy Strikes Liverpool FC Victory Parade: Car Rams into Crowd, One Arrested

A day that began with jubilation and unity turned into a scene of chaos and heartbreak in Liverpool, as a car drove into a crowd of people shortly after Liverpool FC's Premier League victory parade concluded. 

The incident took place near Water Street in the city center around 6:00 p.m., just as roads were being reopened to regular traffic.

Authorities have confirmed the arrest of a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area, who was detained at the scene. 

Several bystanders were injured, some critically, after the vehicle appeared to deliberately accelerate into a group of fans who had gathered to celebrate the team’s historic league win.

Eyewitness Accounts

Witnesses described horrifying scenes as the car ploughed through the crowd. “We were just starting to head home, still buzzing from the parade, when out of nowhere this car sped toward us,” said Callum Price, a 27-year-old fan from Everton. 

“People were screaming, running—some tried to stop the driver.”

Emergency services responded swiftly, providing immediate aid to the injured and securing the area. 

Videos circulating on social media showed onlookers rushing to help victims before police cordoned off the scene.

Official Response and Investigation

Merseyside Police are leading the investigation with support from Counter Terrorism Policing North West. 

While it remains unclear whether the act was intentional or terror-related, authorities are urging the public not to speculate as they work to uncover the motive.

“We understand the distress this has caused,” said a spokesperson for Merseyside Police. 

“We ask anyone with footage or information to come forward and avoid sharing graphic content online out of respect for the victims.”

National Reaction

Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the incident, calling it “an appalling act on what should have been a proud and joyful day for Liverpool.”

 He praised the emergency services for their rapid intervention and extended thoughts to those affected.

Liverpool FC released a statement expressing shock and solidarity with the victims and their families: “Our hearts go out to everyone impacted by today’s incident.

 The safety of our supporters remains our top priority.”

What was supposed to be a unifying day for a city proud of its footballing heritage has left residents reeling. 

The Premier League also released a message of support, stating they were “deeply saddened” and “monitoring the situation closely.”
